What is GEO?

GEO stands for Generative Engine Optimization: making sure your website gets found, cited, and recommended by AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and the AI overviews now sitting on top of search results. Where classic search sent people to a page of blue links, a growing share of questions today are answered directly, in a sentence or two, often with a source cited underneath. GEO is the discipline of making sure that source is you.

Why this is different from ranking

Ranking well in search results has always meant convincing a crawler your page is relevant. GEO adds a second bar: convincing a language model your page is quotable. That means your content needs to be structured cleanly, state facts plainly, carry real structured data, and be easy for a model to extract and summarize without ambiguity. A page can rank on page one and still never get cited by an AI answer if it is vague, unstructured, or buried in marketing language instead of clear statements.

What AI engines actually look for

  • Clear, direct answers near the top of the page — not buried after three paragraphs of preamble.
  • Accurate structured data (schema.org, FAQs, entities) that spells out what the page is about.
  • Consistent facts that match what's said elsewhere about the same topic or entity.
  • A crawlable, readable page — no content locked behind heavy client-side rendering or paywalls.
  • Freshness and clarity on authorship, so a model can trust and attribute what it reads.

How iSuggest.ai helps

Every audit on iSuggest.ai measures your page against these signals and turns them into a concrete list of what to fix. When a page is ready, you can publish it into our AI directory — a permanent, machine-readable snapshot served in the formats AI crawlers actually read (HTML, JSON, and Markdown), so the engines that matter can find and cite it directly.
